Psoriasis signs and treatment

Psoriasis is one of the diseases that were known about as far back as 3,000 years ago. Not only that, ancient Egyptian mummies have been excavated and found with traces of psoriasis on their bodies. However, in those days, this disease was considered a form of leprosy. The patient was instantly isolated from society. Only in the early 19th century psoriasis signs and treatment were first described in detail. And the disease itself was singled out as a separate disease, beginning its study and research, as well as the search for cures.

Psoriasis can be inherited. In this case, it appears at an early age, from 15 to 30 years old. If there is no genetic predisposition, then it affects people aged 50-60 years. This disease is classified as a chronic skin disease. The first signs of psoriasis is the manifestation of reddish "plaques" on the skin, which are covered with silver-gray scales. They can be easily detached from the skin, leaving reddened skin underneath.

Usually, psoriasis appears on the elbows, on the head, on the knees, on the hands, on the feet and even on the face. It is a disease that is not contagious. But it still remains poorly understood. Scientists believe that the appearance of flaky scales is due to the fact that in some areas of the skin cells begin to divide faster, and their "cellular" path is not 30-40 days, as in healthy people, and significantly reduced.

Treatment of psoriasis has not yet been found. Medicine has only means that can alleviate the condition of the patient. The fact is that psoriasis is accompanied by severe itching. As a result, a person "strips" plaques, leaving on the surface of the skin red, inflamed areas. In this case, doctors prescribe skin moisturizing drugs, as well as those that reduce for a while itching. Doctors also prescribe physiotherapeutic procedures under ultraviolet lamps.

Recently, there has been research that psoriasis appears in people who have a vitamin D deficiency. This vitamin is synthesized by the body when exposed to sunlight. Unfortunately, recently people protect their bodies from the sun by using sunscreen, which significantly reduces the synthesis of vitamin D in the body.
